I've had a lot of time to ponder this winter due to injuries and stupid accidents, like flying off the front steps Christmas Eve. So many bad things happen in our lives, that it is hard sometimes to remember the good.
The best thing is that I didn't break anything. Yay.
The other best thing is that I had to realize how blessed I have been, and the wonderful things I've been able to do in one ordinary life.
I was able to travel the world with my parents and later, school mates. I had a wonderful extended family and grandparents who loved me and helped raise me. There was music in my life, I sang in choirs, and learned instruments, especially t he piano, with an amazing teacher. It is still magical to me that I can play the great composers, and contemporary musicians as well. It is amazing that my fingers still move well enough to make the chords resound, and that I still have my piano, a gift from my parents when I was eight.
In school, and after, I learned to love books, to study languages, and to write. I learned art there, and from my beloved Uncle Tom, who was a talented artist. Also, my great uncle Charley was an artist, my uncle George taught art, and history, and taught me to love both.
Good health has blessed me most of my life; I was able to compete in school sports, especially gymnastics. I took tumbling and ballet, and acted in some plays, did public speaking, some debate. All of it was fun, with my good friends.
My beloved pets were and are with me. I had my parents into my late forties and fifties. Their spirits are still with me. The memory of family lives in my heart everyday, and my American Doll and Toy Museum, is a love letter to them. We traveled/ lived on every continent but Antarctica, and my beloved teacher Dr. Tweet went there, so we are covered.
My husband and our soon are a double blessing, and our home is warm if not house beautiful.
I am blessed, and I have much to be thankful for.
